FAQ and troubleshooting

Grouped by where you are when you get stuck. To see what the finished thing looks like, open one of the sample packets; for what a pass costs see pricing; for what goes in a packet in the first place see the answers. If your question is not here, ask it — that is how the list grows.

Getting started

Do I need to create an account?
No, and there is nothing to create one with. Your litter is stored in your own browser rather than on a server, so there is no login, no password to lose and no account to close. A kennel-year subscription issues a licence key, and the key is the whole thing.
Where is my litter actually stored?
In your browser’s own storage, on the computer or tablet you entered it on. It is not uploaded and we cannot see it. The one exception, and it is the only one on the site, is a page of paperwork you choose to have read for you: that single image is sent to be read and nothing else goes with it, which the privacy page sets out in full. That aside, the litter does not follow you to another device, and clearing your browser’s site data for this site deletes it — so export a backup file and keep it with your other kennel records.
How many puppies can one litter have?
Up to 16. That is generous enough for any real litter and low enough that one pass is not a kennel licence. If you have genuinely exceeded it, get in touch rather than splitting the litter in two.
Can I use it for a species other than dogs?
Not yet. The vocabulary and the packet sections are written for dogs — puppy, litter, dam, sire, whelp date, microchip — and a cat or bird version would need its own words and its own pages rather than a find-and-replace. The code is built so that adding one is a profile rather than a rewrite.

While you are building the packet

I already keep all of this in a spreadsheet. Do I have to type it in again?
No. Bring the spreadsheet in and its columns are matched to the packet’s own fields — collar, name, sex, chip number, go-home date, weights, and the sire and dam — and shown to you in a table before a single value is written. The file is read on your own computer; only the row of headings goes anywhere, so the column called “Chip #” can be recognised. Bringing in spreadsheets is free and unmetered, however many rows they have. Photographs of a vaccination card or a registration page are read the same way, one page at a time and only when you ask: the first three are read for nothing and a litter pass reads the rest of that litter’s. Nothing you have already typed is overwritten, so running the same file twice is safe.
I weigh in pounds and ounces. Does it convert everything to kilograms?
No. Weights are recorded and printed in the units you entered them in, pounds and ounces or kilograms and grams. It does not convert behind your back, because a conversion you did not ask for is a number you cannot check against the notebook by the whelping box.
One puppy was wormed a day later than the rest. How do I record that?
Record the event for the litter and then set the exception for that puppy. Health and socialization events apply to the whole litter by default, because that is how they are usually done — along the box, same day, same lot — so you record what differed rather than re-entering what did not.
Will another puppy’s details appear in a packet I send to a family?
No. Each packet contains only that puppy: its own weights, its own health record, its own microchip number, its own new family. Events that applied to only some puppies are named with those puppies in your own litter record, which is the document that never leaves your files.
Can I change the layout, the fonts or the margins?
You can change your kennel logo and contact block, the accent colour, one of three typeface pairings, US Letter or A4, US or UK date order, three or four pedigree generations, and which optional sections print. You cannot move things around, change the margins or pick arbitrary fonts. The design quality of the packet is what you are buying, and a free layout editor is how documents become ugly.
Can I put a contract or a health guarantee in the packet?
No, and it is not planned. Those are legal agreements between you and your buyer rather than records of the puppy, and software that drafts them is giving legal advice without knowing what jurisdiction it is in. Breeders who use them generally exchange and sign them separately from the keepsake folder anyway.

Exporting and printing

What do I get when I export a litter?
Three things: one PDF per puppy, one ZIP containing all of them plus your litter record, and the litter record on its own. The ZIP exists so the whole litter is one download rather than nine, and the separate record button is for coming back in a year to check a chip number.
Why is SAMPLE printed diagonally across every page?
Because the litter has no pass on it yet. Nothing else is held back: every page, every section and every feature is already in front of you, and the preview you are looking at is the finished document. A pass takes the watermark off that litter’s exports, and it also reads the rest of that litter’s photographed paperwork once the first three pages have been read for nothing. See the pricing page for what a pass costs and what it covers.
Can I email the packets to the new families from here?
No. Download the PDF or the ZIP and attach it to your own email, which is also what new families expect — a packet arriving from your address rather than from a service they have never heard of. It means we never handle your buyers’ email addresses either.
Will the packet print correctly at a copy shop?
It is a normal PDF with its fonts embedded, at the paper size you chose, so a copy shop or a home printer treats it like any other document. Fonts are embedded rather than referenced, which is what stops the layout shifting on a machine that has never visited this site.

Paying

Which payment methods work?
Anything Stripe accepts in your country, including the wallet payments your browser offers. Card details are entered on Stripe’s own page and never touch this site.
I mistyped the dam’s name and I have already paid. What now?
Get in touch and it will be sorted out. A pass is tied to the dam’s name and the whelp date because both print on every packet, which is what stops one pass covering two litters — but a typo is a support question, not something you should have to work around.
My licence key stopped working.
A key stops validating for exactly two reasons: the subscription is no longer live, or the key was revoked because it had been shared publicly. Get in touch and it can be sorted out either way.

When something is broken

Something is not working. What is useful to send?
Which browser and which device, what you did, and what happened instead. A screenshot beats a description. Please do not send a backup file or a screenshot with a buyer’s name or address in it — describe the field rather than showing it. Reports of something genuinely broken go to the front of the queue.
I cleared my browser data and my litter is gone. Can you restore it?
No, and that is the honest cost of the design. We never had a copy, because the litter was only ever on your machine. A backup file can be re-imported; without one there is nothing to recover from. The editor tells you when there are changes you have not backed up — that indicator is what it is for.
